I have noticed a number of new features being tested and rolled out by some of the big social platforms that I wanted to share with you.

Instagram

  • Pinned posts on user profiles – You can now choose 3 posts that you would like to pin at the very top of your grid. This will help you have your key posts / messages always at the top of your grid for new people visiting your page.
  • Edit grid option – With this new feature you can rearrange your grid as you would like, no matter when you published the post.
  • Templates for Reels – This will borrow formats from other videos on the platform so you can drop your content into preset frames or templates, similar to TikTok’s template tool.

Whilst these new features look promising, only time will tell how much these new features will impact our audience growth and engagement.

Meta Features (Facebook) ‘Live’

We know how video is the best format for engaging audiences on social media. Meta alongside other social platforms are building out their meta features around ‘live video streaming’, here are some of the new features:

  • Polls
  • Support for four-person co-broadcasting via the “Live With” feature
  • A new post format
  • Support for adding links to broadcasts and “Live in Stories,” which allows creators to share their live streams directly to Facebook Stories to improve their chances of discovery.
  • Featured Links allow creators to add links to their live broadcasts, pointing fans to landing pages, donation opportunities, shopping sites, and more.

If you are using video in your marketing strategy, live video streaming could be an additional way to help grow your audience and engage your customers.
